mamma had surgery

My mamma had surgery on Tuesday.
She all of her female parts taken out (uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries), bladder repair, and then some "fixing" from when she gave birth to me... yes 22 years ago!

I took the day off work, and picked up her and my grandma. We drove to the hospital and checked my mom in. Anything involving my grandma is bound to be an adventure...

We were all somewhat nervous for her surgery. About 3 years ago she had her thyroid removed. She hemorrhaged, and required 3 more surgeries and was admitted to ICU with a tube... That was probably the most scared I have ever been in my entire life...

After they took my mom back for surgery around 4pm, my grandma and me got some lunch/dinner and ate. Around 5:30 I had to go to school so I left and during my break around 6:30 I called my mom. She was pretty out of it but I asked if she could eat anything? To my shock she said she could eat anything, and so I asked what she wanted... "Lemon Rice and a chocolate milk shake".
Ohhh.... K??

Sick!

I got out of school and called my grandma around 8:30 to see if my mom still wanted that sick sounding dinner. "Well... she can't talk right now, the Dr. is in here and she is bleeding a lot."
"Are you joking? Well is she going to be okay?"

I wasn't sure if she was exaggerating a little or if she was serious, given the circumstances from her last surgery.

James and I went and visited her that night and she was losing a lot of blood. The Dr. decided to order some frozen platelets and have them administered to her to try and help her clot. If that didn't work, he suggested adding another stitch or two without surgery.
We went home, and I felt a little better about things. That night around 1am however I got a phone call saying that she was still bleeding a LOT, and she would have to go back to the OR!

WHAT?!

To make a long story short, she went back in to surgery and they stopped the bleeding. I was a nervous wreck. I couldn't go back to sleep! After 3 lonnnng hours I called up the hospital to check on her status... she was in recovery. Thank heaven!
They think she might have a clotting disorder. It just scared me half to death because you hear horror stories about women giving child birth, etc. and bleeding to death!

My advice: no... more... surgeries... for... my... mom....
EVER!

Anyway, she is doing well now.

Love ya mamma :)

On a more positive note... it was really neat to watch the nurses care for her. 19 more months!

This is a before picture... she would kill me if I posted an after...
