What's new with us you ask?

Well....

- Shandi quit her job at the Vetran's Home
- Shandi got a new job
- James passed his Journeyman Electrician State Boards
- House projects
- Getting ready for Summer
- Graduation

It's been a busy month!  James took his State Boards for his Journeyman Electrician License at the beginning of the month and passed with flying colors.  He is just waiting to receive his license from the Licensing Division in the mail.  After he receives it, he is then eligible for a raise!  Technically, he still has 1 year left of school (There are 2 ways to become and electrician... Through the union and non-union.  Union requires 5 years of schooling, however after year 4 you can take your state boards and are eligible to be paid as a Journeyman Electrician.  Non-Union you have 4 years of school.  What's the difference?  Union you have better benefits, pay, etc.)  So anyway, we are excited for him to be "done" :)

I quit my job at the Vetran's Home and my last day was May 10th.  I worked there for about 3 months and loved working with the cute Vetran's residents.  It is a great facility!  I was becoming extremely burned out with my patient load (60 patients) and most days wanted to cry.  Like I said, it is a great facility, however with insurance and Medicare reimbursement they are only allotted ___X____ amount of $ per patient and that's kind of just how it is.  So!  I put in my 2 weeks, and thanked my lucky stars that I kept my On-Call job at the InstaCare.  My plan was to continue working there and scrounge for shifts until I could find a full time job somewhere else.  I applied for a Postpartum job at McKay Dee Hospital a few days before the end of my 2 weeks.  I got to looking... It was my 26th job that I had applied for through IHC since December.  Crazy!!!  The market right now is really bad for new graduate nurses. The majority of facilities are wanting 1-2 years of experience before hiring, however no one is really offering nurses the opportunity to gain experience.  By some miracle, I received a phone call for an interview a few days later.  I prayed and prayed that everything would work out.  It was a group interview, and let's just say I hated that part!  Have any of you done one?  This particular group interview consisted of me and 2 other candidates.  The management sat at a table across from us and would ask an interview question, and then each of us candidates would take turns answering.  Blah!  To make a long story short, a week later I got a phone call from HR offering me the job and I literally started to cry after I got off the phone.  It's been an emotional ride.  So I will now be a Postpartum RN at McKay Dee!  The way it is set up, is the mother's deliver on the Labor and Delivery Unit.  A couple of hours later, they are then moved to our unit and stay from anywhere from 1-4 days on average.  So not only do I get to take care of the mom's, but I get to take care of their babies as well :)  I will be working 5PM - 5AM, three 12 hour shifts/week.  It even came with a raise, so I am pretty excited.  I start after June 10th, but I don't have my schedule yet.

In the meantime until I start, I have been working here and there at the InstaCare.  I've been able catch up on what I fee like I haven't been able to do for the past 2 years like: baking, reading, cleaning, cough cough Pinterest... cough...  I found this recipe online that was originally for banana bread.  I made them into cookies and they were pretty tasty!  The best part is they are low cal.  It is 1 yellow cake mix, 3 bananas, and chocolate chips.

I made a trip down to St. George this past Friday to visit my mama and it was so much fun :)  She is coming up north for the Summer on Monday.  Our weekend was spent laying out by her pool, baking cookies, making smoothies, grilling, visiting the Tuacahn Farmer's Market, and some yard work here and there.  Here are some pictures:

Monday night my cute cousin Michelle and sister Heather met up at the new City Creek Center!  It was my first time there and I was way impressed!  I wish they had something like that up North!  We went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and walked around.  Here are some pictures:

What are your summer happenings?
