So...
We have been working on finishing up our house projects since we got back from vacation. I have this TERRIBLE bad habit of getting ideas, starting projects, and either realizing it is way too hard and that James needs to finish it, or I get busy with something else like school. It is a vicious cycle... poor James. We were able to finish our Laundry Room a few weeks ago, and I'm loving it! It had been partly painted for 2 years... I know right? It drove me nuts! I started painting it after our water damage incident and then went back to school and never was able to finish it.
This room I absolutely HATED... double hated. If you have a townhouse or apartment, is seems like they design the laundry room/pantry the same way. It is super tiny, the door opens in which makes it feel even smaller, the pantry is combined inside, and the central vac is also in there. So my main goal was to make it organized, modern looking, and maximize space.
When my mom moved from Brigham, she gave us these white cabinets and they work really well in the room. I simply sat the cabinets on top of the existing shelf. I also put white protective contact paper on all the shelves to prevent dings/dents to our freshly painted room. I got it at Wal-Mart and it came in a long roll. It is a foam type material and it isn't sticky. It activates when you set items on top of it. I was skeptical but it doesn't move at all after you put something on top of it. I found these laundry bins at Wal-Mart that I think were made to go in these types of Laundry Rooms. They fit perfectly on the shelf that was there. I have a bin for each item (darks, lights, colors, towels, and James work clothes). It makes doing the Laundry WAY easier. As for the pantry, I saw on Studio 5 that Martha Stewart teamed up with Avery Labels and has a line at Staples. I bought clear containers and white bins at Wal-Mart and used Martha's chalkboard labels. I think it turned out really fun and organized. It makes the space look way less cluttered. I also added an "over the door" hook to hang some of our jackets, purse, hats, etc.
One thing I have been wanting since we moved here (yes 5 years ago), was a cozy patio space. I bought some plants at Wal-Mart and found this fun solar powered candle LED lamp at Smith's of all places. We are loving it for Summer time.
Next on our list is our cabinets.... oh my heavens. This is has a nightmare of a project that I started and crapped out on. It has been going on for like 2.5 years. Seriously. I started them and realized how HARD it was! Then I got busy with school and neither of us had time to finish. James has been able to start finishing them and they should be done in a few weeks. Here is an "in the process" picture:
Are you up to any house projects?
